SOLAR POWER PLANT WITH CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN MOROCCO

By Lea Zeppenfeld

One of the pilot communities of the EDMITA project in South Morocco is planning a solar power plant operated by the citizens. The photo shows two team members discussing the project with the mayor of Fam ElHisn at the planned location. More than 25,000 tons of CO2 per year are to be saved there in the future. EDMITA supports these plans with a scenario development on how to democratically and transparently regulate electricity feed-in, distribution, etc. The GIZ financed project "Sustainable Energy in the Provinces of Midelt andTata" (EDMITA), also known as DKTI 3 strenghtened the capacities of the provinces Midelt and Tata to use the potential of renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE/EE) technologies for sustainable development. The provinces have been chosen to host power plants of the Moroccan solar plan. Methodologically, EDMITA follows a participatory strategy development approach involving stakeholders at both communal and provincial levels.
